Academics

Lessons and Classwork

Home Desk
Dear Parents,
I am thrilled to have the opportunity to teach your children this year! I am committed to making my class a safe environment for each of my students so that they can grow academically in their ELAR skills and discover things about themselves along the way. I am dedicated to helping every child grow as a student not only in my course but in all of academics. I am open to communication with parents but I encourage student's self advocacy. Please encourage your student to take responsibility for their grades and school work. I look forward to getting to know your amazing children and seeing the work they accomplish this year!

Year Long Plan

The Button below will take you to my Year Long Plan. This document is a rough outline of Units I would cover in a year. It shows the writing strategies I would focus on and the TEKS I am targeting for each Unit.

1

Choice Board

This document is a sample choice board for a class assignment. The students would need to pick two options from the categories to improve their literary skills. They can choose any two but they must be from different topics either Plot, Theme or Opinion.

The Odyssey

For my total teach I chose The Odyssey. I knew several of my students had a love for greek mythology and I wanted the last quarter of the school year to be fun for them! I took over right after they had finished the STAAR tests so I knew they were exhausted. I have tried to make all my lessons fun specifically by incorporating the world into the story. Being an arts magnet school I kept hearing the phrase "Art Integration", and after observing my mentor run a flawless art integration lesson in the Othello unit I challenged myself to incorporate the students art conservatories in as many lessons as I could.

Book 9 Lesson

Linked below is a lesson that incorporated a music interpretation of the stories in Book 9. They listened to a song then read a portion of the story, they answered questions throughout the entire process. At the end they watched a short video about the Cyclopes.

Final Project

For their final grade the students completed a "Monster Project" The instructions for this project are linked bellow. They had several days in class and presented their final pieces during the last week of school!

Book 10 Music Day

For one part of the unit I had students listening to select songs from Epic:The Musical and answering questions. This was to introduce them to the story in Book 10 before they read it. The form they used which has all the resources they needed is linked below. The form also leads to the Lyrics page and song links.

Foundation Friday

In my mentor's class every Friday the kids would have Foundation Friday which a fun vocabulary study and quiz day. I plan to incorporate the same idea in my future classroom. Here is the lesson plan for one of those Fridays. Click the button below to check it out!

Othello Film Day

One piece of literature our students studied during my clinical teaching was William Shakespeare's Othello. Shakespeare is hard for anyone to read and understand, so after completing each Acts Unit we would watch a film adaptation of the scene. Click the button below to see what the lesson for one of those film days is like.

Essay Revisions

Click the button below to see a lesson plan for our students to revise their essays. This is Part 2 of Essay revisions as day 1 was simply allowing the students to see the comments I left on their essays and make any minor corrections like formatting. This days lesson is about monitoring the students throughout the revision process.
